Your email is the master key to everything — password resets for your bank, Instagram, and apps all land here. Turning on 2-Step Verification is the single highest-impact thing you can do.

Open your Google security settings. On a phone: Settings → Google → Manage your Google Account → Security. On a computer: go to myaccount.google.com and click Security. Find 2-Step Verification and tap Get Started. Re-enter your password if asked. Set up an Authenticator app (like Google Authenticator) as your main method. This is safer than SMS. Add your phone number only as a backup — not your main method. SMS codes can be stolen through SIM-swap fraud, which is common in India. Save your backup codes somewhere safe and offline (screenshot or print them). You'll need these if you ever lose your phone. Turn it on, then sign out and back in once to confirm it works. Never click links in unexpected SMS or emails about "KYC update", "account blocked", or "verify now" — even if they look official. Remember: no bank, no company, and no "customer care" ever asks for your OTP or password. Anyone who does is a scammer. Before typing a password, look at the real website address. Fake login pages copy the design but the URL is wrong. Don't trust caller ID or "official-looking" numbers. Scammers can fake these easily. When in doubt, open the official app or website directly — never through the link in the message.
